On June 30, 2016, our students took an unusual trip to Washington D.C.  They were able to view the Washington Monuments by way of the Potomac River.  Our trip began in the picturesque and historic Old Town Alexandria, VA where students boarded the Matthew Hayes vessel and cruised the Potomac River to Georgetown and back.  Students gained rich historical knowledge of the Potomac and the importance of this river to Washington D.C.  Monuments that were seen were the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Kennedy Center, and the infamous Watergate Hotel.

Fort Delaware, Delaware City / Escape Rooms, Wilmington

Fort Delaware, the Union fortress dating back to 1859, once housed Confederate prisoners of war. It was originally built to protect the ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia.  We took a ½ -mile ferry ride from Delaware City to Pea Patch Island. A jitney provides transport from the island dock to the granite and brick fortress. Here, costumed interpreters took us back to the summer of 1864.  We could help the blacksmith hammer out new parts for a cannon or work with the laundress. (Some of our students actually washed laundry!!)  We also enjoyed a concert given by the interpreters featuring songs from this era. (http://www.destateparks.com/park/fort-delaware/)

Exodus Escape Rooms in Wilmington hosted us for some great fun and team building.  Working together in teams and given only one hour, our students had to figure out different riddles and clues to unlock other clues which eventually revealed a key to leave the room.  Students were in Pharoah's tomb where they had to decipher heirogliphics, Shawshank Redemption room where they had to make a prizon break, and Sherlock Holmes room where they had to break a code and solve the mystery similar to Clue.
