Happy New Year
New Year, New You! That seems to be the theme for 2017. Here at Upward Bound, we are always trying to improve, so New Year, New You may just work for us as well. Every month, I will be adding a new blog to inform everyone of any new happenings and to remind everyone of the events that are pending. Blogs may not necessarily be written by me all the time; however, there may be interesting facts and insight from guest speakers or quotes by important people in our community.
It's hard to believe we are almost done with the second week of January already! Time flies when you are having fun! Ms. Tanisha and I will be returning to the schools the week of January 23. We will definitely be keeping you busy this winter/spring. January also begins tax season, and with that comes financial aid. This year's financial aid workshop will be held for juniors and seniors along with their parents on January 28 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Transportation will not be provided as parents are highly encouraged to attend. We will have a representative from $tand by Me to give a presentation on the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA). All students who plan to attend college are required to fill out this federal form which can be confusing, so we are here to help you understand it better. After the presentation, UB staff will be on hand to help those who wish to fill out the form that day.
Juniors and junior parents: The permission slip for our Boston trip is due before January 27. Ms. Nikki says she only has 3 permission slips as of today, so we need them ASAP. If you can't get it to us before we return to the schools, be sure to remember to bring them that week. If you have any questions, contact Ms. Tanisha or me, or call 302-857-1405 and speak to Ms. Nikki. We will NOT accept permission slips after January 27.
If you have information that you would like included in the monthly blog, let one of the staff at UB know. We are always looking to keep our students and parents updated and celebrate with you when something positive occurs. We will be looking to see which colleges are accepting our fantastic and hard-working seniors, and we will be ready to celebrate when everyone's grades come out in a couple of weeks. Keep up the hard work, and always reach for the stars.
